Brimful of ideas

Writing social media posts in advance is a service I provide to businesses and organisations. I created this social media calendar to help spark ideas.

An event is the perfect ‘hook’ on which to hang a blog article, a social media post, inspire an Instagram story or a TikTok.

More key dates could include:

  • Awareness days for related causes or charities
  • Your business anniversary
  • A birthday of a key product or service
  • A birthday of someone you admire – like an author or business leader. Why not send your regards through social media?

What’s your key message or sale to drive that month?

If you know sales dip in a certain month, schedule something a couple of weeks beforehand with a special offer.

What’s your ideal time period for orders?

It’s often best to remind people a fortnight before, and then repeat a similar message a week before.

Many people are surprised by how long it takes to create a wedding dress or arrange an event. So make sure you give them plenty of notice and some friendly nudges.

The power to time travel

The times your customers may be at their most approachable may not chime with when your business is looking its best. For example, if you grow flowers for weddings, your nursery won’t be blooming on Valentine’s Day.

But you can still post! How about “Congrats to all the new brides and grooms created today” with an image of your flowers last summer?

Another technique is “Just sorting through some photos and found these great ones from a wedding last June”. Or join in #ThrowbackThursday with a memory.

Here’s a fantastic example by one of my clients during a summer heatwave:

Working with Sunday Times bestselling author SJ Parris, I noticed a spike of Facebook visitors on 26 December. No doubt bookworms who’d been gifted one of her novels. So now we pre-schedule a post listing all her books.
